Neurocloud

The Neurocloud server is used primarily as a platform to share data with researchers located in institutions other than the TU Dresden. It's based on the widespread software NextCloud and compatible with NextCloud's client software available for MS Windows and OSX. This optional software enables the synchronization of group folders located in the Neurocloud with local folders on your PC.

Please keep in mind that the group folders can be very large, so it's better to just synchronize a selection of subfolders needed for your daily work.

The following steps guide you through the client installation process. It's based on the version for MS Windows but should be applicable for all other versions as well.

Installation steps

1. Download the latest version of Nextcloud's client software from Nextcloud Client.

2. Install it on your PC

3. Using your internet browser, go to the Neurocloud server and log in using your intitution's credentials. The server is only accessible from the institutional networks. If you are working from home or during a business trip, please activate the VPN or your institution.

4. Keep the browser open.

5. Start the Nextcloud client software you just installed.

6. Using the option “Anmelden”, enter the server address: neurocloud.zih.tu-dresden.de

7. Confirm the authorization in the browser.

8. Avoid synchronizing everything by using the option to manually choose the folders as shown in the picture bellow.

10. After choosing the folder to be synchronized, click Verbinden / Connect to finalize the process.

11. A shortcut for the folders will be created among the favorite items in the file manager.

Note regarding the group folders

Researchers working locally at the TU Dresden more often than not access the group folders directly, skipping the Neurocloud server altogether. For this reason, certain metadata changes like creating or deleting files, if done this way, might take up to one hour to be reflected in the Neurocloud server. However, the content of the files isn't affected by this lag and is immediately available on Neurocloud server.
